Don’t worry.... Prizes Drop blog is here to the rescue! Scan through our list and maybe you’ll find something here in 2021 to help you with the tough decision.

There are so many different video games now, it's tricky to be ready to fire up the right title for your particular mood, need or situation. Too tired for all-out action? Why not just a quick blast on a decent sports game?

Check out the following game genre suggestions below.......

- Creative and Monetized Games

These can unleash your creative side, and also be a way to make money, creating or selling in-game digital assets. They can allow you build and visualise unique things, even in VR and enable others to interact with them.

Check out: The Sandbox.

- Open World Action, Story and Exploration

The ever-popular Rockstar Games-fuelled format of a wide open territory to explore and get to know, picking up the main-story missions or numerous side quests. Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto simply made those game maps so fun, detailed and filled with colour - and colourful characters. Will this game format ever really get tired? Every generation needs its GTA or Far Cry map.

And don't forget all the kinds of 'emergent behaviour' (featuring diverse kinds of NPC wildlife or policemen) which can occur unexpectedly and hilariously and generate popular Youtube hits. This escapism does eventually get tired, but it also spills over into the equally rich multiplayer modes and experience of the same map, or into DLC.

Check out: Red Dead Redemption 2 and Far Cry 6 (coming soon)

- Open-World Survival Games

Similar to the above, only this sub-genre strips away a lot of the story and/or RPG aspects of gaming and concentrates simply on the struggle to survive. These ones need a little patience, since there's nearly always essential crafting and foraging involved. The rewards are real though, and may even stand you in good stead if you happen to crash land on a remote island.

Check out: Stranded Deep

- Historical / Action Games

We can only really mean the Assassin’s Creed can’t we? A franchise played on the sly by millions of history professors on vacation, and even taught in schools. Why? They bring huge chunks of history to life and come with tons of background information and feature famous characters you can meet and hold conversations with. Ok, there’s a lot of assassination and parkour too. Just pick your favourite historical time-period to synchronise into.... Roman times? Victorian London? The French Revolution? Egypt? or...

- Kids/Family/Sporting Games

From Fitness and Dance games to Mario Kart Racing and Nintendo Mario games in general, there are tons of games which can get your family interacting and even moving off the couch for a while. There are also quiz style games where you team up and answer questions.

Sports titles are high doses of action or party play, and actually great to unwind with if they're the fluid sort, like snowboarding downhill. Or... you can fire up a motorbike or jump on a mountain bike and just fly down an exhilarating course to beat your last score....

Check out: Infinite Mini-Golf , Trials Rising, Steep and Descenders

- Story-based games

These can be more passive type of games. They can lead more than one player of an evening on an intriguing mystery to solve. You’ll have to make decisions together. A fun middle-ground alternative to intensive gameplay or completely passive TV watching. Some of these are based on major TV shows like Walking Dead anyway... Get your timing right and make wise decisions to affect sometimes a different outcome each time.

- VR games

Sony PlayStation are providing some of the most accessible games via their headset and via PS5, which is still so new. One of the most impressive, alluring titles is to strap yourself into an X-Wing starfighter and go fly for the rebellion. That's right, you can finally ‘exist’ inside the Star Wars universe.

Or... yes, you can also buy a Facebook-owned Oculus headset and play a lot of other games and experiences downloadable via their website, but many of us just don’t have the time or immersive energy to invest.

- Combat Games

We're talking Mortal Kombat or a similar title. The latest one is very expensive and super-violent but it doesn’t have to be as gory as this. You can try an old souped-up version of Street Fighter 2, available in the PS Store. It's just as fun and more family friendly.

The great thing is that they’re generally not too lengthy: you can dive into a short fight before settling down to watching other TV for the evening.

- FPS / First-Person Shooter Games

Some of these get pretty heavy and intense, and overload you with RPG options and story cut-scenes. But we have to recommend none other than the original and best, now souped-up for the modern gamer: The Doom franchise. Incredible graphics, weaponry, thrilling sound, level design and music.

- AR games

This ‘wave’ has not properly arrived yet, but when it does it will be steady, amazing and championed by some breakthrough hardware from Microsoft or similar. Not only for home-based working, but there will be some awesome games - including board games below - which will come vividly to life for solo and party play.

For now, a great AR game to play on your mobile phone right now would be: Knightfall AR

- Platform Indie-Games

Beautifully-created games which are also fluid to play and not too annoying or difficult. Brain-tickling, exploratory eye-candy experiences that linger on after you've, surprisingly, managed to complete them.....

Check out: Planet Alpha or Gris

- Board games

From Scrabble, Monopoly, Chess, Uno... various card games... to Poker and Roulette. It might be time to take out these classics which are classics for a good reason.

You might find versions online (Monopoly) you can play together around the screen, and which makes tracking the scores and all the boring stuff as you go, automatic.

Yes, we know. There are tons more types of games out there and for mobile too like Search and Find games, puzzle games, Tetris, simulation games and all those which combine elements of different ones....
