It's time you started creating VR 360 panoramic video!

Ever watched some Youtube 360 content? Maybe you’ve been on tons of virtual roller-coasters, watched herds of elephants crossing African rivers, gone snowboarding down mountains or floated in a drone over the ancient city of Petra...

You will notice that the volume of immersive content is quietly expanding, boosted by the popularity of VR headsets like the Oculus Quest 2, which take VR beyond gaming by allowing people to wear a headset anywhere - with amazing presence!

Still... you don't even need an Oculus Quest 2! Not if you have a good smartphone! Since there are plenty of comfortable headsets at very affordable prices for watching Google Cardboard and Youtube 360 content.

And this all means there’s never been a better time to get into 360 degree photography and film-making. Or even 180 degree video, as that may be sufficient for some things. It depends.

Education in general is going to be massive with VR, as it takes students a step further in understanding how to do things. [However, it's recommended kids don't spend much time in VR until they are at least 12 years old, since their eyes and senses are still developing.]

And there's no rush. VR is not in any hurry to catch fire. For one thing, it’s more immersive, so the barrier for entry is higher for everyday users and mature users who are just not madly interested in expanding their existing realities. However, the interest and use-cases are growing. A major - still underrated - area with a huge future ahead is of course: house-hunting and site-seeing. It's a global activity and process most people will one day go through.

The Demand from Estate Agents

Estate agents and travel companies can offer their clients exclusive content for getting a virtual feel of a place, without ever visiting the property or location. It’s technology that solves a real problem: travelling around to see houses, and helping to make that final decision to purchase. It's an eco-friendly solution too.

Of course, there’s tons of other content too, but as many Youtube pioneers point out, this is a new medium of expression, which means the traditional rules of film-making and photography simply do not apply.

For one thing, 360 VR movies and ‘panoramas’ are more immersive, so the positioning of the camera is vital, and so is the equipment quality. It really has to be HD stuff, because grainy or poorly-stitched 360 content will just age badly, and put people off. Thankfully, some great gear is out there for producing the required quality, if you do any amount of research on Amazon.

Inviting Content with ‘Wow’ Presence

360 video content is like inviting someone into a room. It helps if there’s something interesting going on to make a person go ‘wow’ as they enter, so the right position is ideal to get a great view you can soak up without too much activity straight away. The virtual viewer needs time to adjust to the environment before absorbing any action going on within it.
